“LAMO” site specific installation by Valentina Ruospo

Work with the exhibition concept Here the real horsewoman
The term Lama, which in Tibetan means being with extraordinary qualities, indicates the Dharma teacher. LAMO is its translation from the Tibetan women. The title, translated from the Sanskrit term guru, is attributed to a monaco / a who has achieved three years, three months and three days of retreat into solitude, usually in mountain retreat, or an advanced tantric lay practitioner with the purpose of designating the high level of spiritual realization, enough to give it the authority to teach.
The installation in the dark room has a very strong smell of lavender sprinkled on offer to the Buddhas, a music with the Vajrasattva mantra from 100 syllables pervades the senses and trestle covered with a wool blanket, a skeleton, Lamo (resin) symbol of impermanence, painting phosphorus, gives off a light body, he sat down in the posture of Buddha Vairochana called or lotus flower, the correct position of meditation.
Lamo is reflected in a mirror light box in which is reflected a skull, but equipped with a presence sensor turns off the mirror leaving the rooting through the face (actively involving the viewer in the experience and installation through all five senses, hearing, smell, touch …).
We Lamo, Lamo’s you, it’s me … Lamo Buddhahood is potentially in all of us living nell’impermanenza
The mirror shows the potential of our mind, just as a mirror reflects the good and the bad, the good and the bad of the great and the little good and bad … without distinction and without judgment. We, however, as we absorb and judge sponges so we are constantly influenced by external disturbing emotions, unable to grasp the impermanence of these crossing there and go like clouds crossing the sky … (The Mirror. A tip about the presence of awareness of Namkhai Norbu edited by Shang-Shung, 1989)
Lamo sitting in the state of meditation, split and spread across the Tibetan Buddhist art, in itself, a calm mind and careful not conditioned from the outside but free from disturbing emotions of dualism, as it is the mirror that reflects without judgment …
Liberation, happiness … I am to be found within us and not outside, that’s the message of the work, once you reach this inner stability and centering, co increasingly numerous living beings like this … even the world will change and you will be born in a pure land.
Through Western Buddhist techniques, it is possible to put it into practice, without being monaco, or isolate themselves on a mountain, indeed developing this mental clarity living in our own mundane and chaotic society.
I wanted to make a special thanks and dedication to my teachers Namkhai Norbu (Derge, December 8, 1938) is a Tibetan academic, who teaches these valuable techniques of liberation, and to my dear friend Sciatrul Lama Rimpoche downtown Milarepa Center. Thank you
